Work Ready Certificates by Technical College

Technical College System of Georgia

Providing a Statewide Network of Support for the Georgia Work Ready Program
The Technical College System of Georgia consists of 34 colleges along with four associated university-system divisions that specialize in technical education, customized business and industry training, and adult learning programs. Georgia’s technical colleges use the best available technology and offer easy access to lifelong education and training for all Georgians and corporate citizens.

Partnering Georgia Work Ready with the Technical College System of Georgia creates a framework of easy access for job seekers to obtain the Georgia Work Ready Certificate, a portable skills credential recognized and valued by employers across Georgia. The framework provides Georgia businesses with a valuable method of matching jobs with certified job seekers’ skills.

Through the Georgia Work Ready program, skills that employers consider essential to job success are measured and documented by the Georgia Work Ready Certificate. Certified skill levels are then matched with existing or customized job profile requirements.

The Technical College System of Georgia administers these certification assessment tests and creates the customized job profiles through Georgia Work Ready Centers, located at each of the state’s 34 technical colleges.

Georgia Work Ready Assessments

The Technical College System of Georgia administers the Georgia Work Ready assessment tests and creates customized job profiles.  For the assessment, a WorkKeys testing instrument is used to measure both the work characteristics and foundational skills of a job applicant or incumbent employee. In each of Georgia’s 34 technical colleges, instructors in the Georgia Work Ready Centers are prepared to assist job seekers and employees in preparing for these assessments.

Georgia's Work Ready Assessment includes:

  1. Work Characteristic Skills Assessment to predict job behavior and measure the full potential of individuals.  The tool used for this assessment is the ACT Performance Profile.  (Coming Summer 2007)

  2. Foundational Skills Assessment to measure cognitive abilities in Applied Mathematics; reading for information; locating information; providing reliable, relevant information about workplace skill levels; and to measure various applied job skills in the areas of reading, problem solving, and communication.

Practice tests are available online or through Georgia Work Ready Centers.

Assessment Levels

Test questions are presented at several levels of difficulty, beginning with the least complex at Level 3 up to the most complex at Levels 6 and 7.  Each level builds on the one before; becoming more complex in nature and incorporating the skills assessed at the preceding level(s). For example, Level 5 includes testing of the identified skills in Levels 3 and 4 as well as introducing new, Level 5 skill tests.

Test scores indicate the skill level that an individual has attained in a specific area. Each WorkKeys assessment has a score level range. Higher score levels indicate the ability to perform more complex skills. By comparing one’s skill levels with the sill levels required for a job, the job seeker/employee and the employer can determine whether or not the job and the person are a good match.

Georgia Work Ready Centers stand ready with training programs to help job seekers and assessment candidates bridge gaps in their skills and increase their level of their performance so that they are work ready.
