Advanced Manufacturing Work Ready Region

 

Georgia's Work Ready Regions is an industry cluster strategy. Each region is an industry-led effort headed by an industry leader and guided by the region's existing industry network. The result is a linking of education, workforce development and training aligned to the needs of the regional advanced manufacturing industry. Its advanced manufacturing industry network is known as the Heart of Georgia Advanced Manufacturing and Distribution Region.

The Heart of Georgia Advanced Manufacturing and Distribution Region, to date, includes Bleckley, Dodge, Johnson, Laurens, Telfair, Treutlen, Wheeler and Wilkinson Counties. Bleckley, Dodge, Johnson, Laurens, Wheeler and Telfair Counties have earned Certified Work Ready status and the remaining two counties in the region are currently working toward the designation.

The region is strategically positioned to give easy access to the interstate system and Georgia's ports. Its current workforce is skilled and has the skills to support advanced manufacturing. Click here for more detail about the region's workforce.

Vision:

Our vision is to fully utilize all committed partnerships in order to recognize the strengths in our workforce as well as the areas needing improvement. Additionally, we must find avenues for improvement in our workforce that will make business and industry successful in every community. Through this effort, we will develop career paths, expand existing businesses, stimulate our communities and be recognized as a Work Ready Certified workforce that is attractive to economic growth.

 

Differentiating the Heart of Georgia Region:
The region is composed of numerous, diversified skill levels, making it important to identify these skills and provide avenues and resources to train and prepare a workforce that will meet the needs of business and industry in order to be successful. This can be accomplished by utilizing Work Ready to establish and certify business and industry skill levels that ensure success measurable by return on investment. For long-term success, it is imperative that Work Ready becomes an inspiration that will encourage and cause partnerships between education and business, as well as business and business.

Goals:

  • Increase awareness about career readiness certification; identify skill and ability needs
  • Provide methods for improving skills and abilities
  • Create partnership between industry and education/training
