Chattahoochee Valley Manufacturing

Advanced Manufacturing Work Ready Region

Georgia's Work Ready Regions is an industry cluster strategy. Each region is an industry-led effort headed by an industry leader and guided by the regions existing industry network. The result is a linking of education, workforce development and training aligned to the needs of the regional advanced manufacturing industry. Its advanced manufacturing industry network is known as the Chattahoochee Valley Advanced Manufacturing Work Ready Region.

The Chattahoochee Valley Region, to date, includes Chattahoochee, Harris, Marion, Muscogee, Stewart, Quitman and Taylor Counties. Six counties in the region are currently working toward Certified Work Ready Community status.

The region is home to Fort Benning, which will be the new home to the Armor School. The installation's new mission will be to provide comprehensive instruction for mounted force leaders in the operation, training and maintenance of armor and cavalry weapons, equipment and units from platoon through brigade to meet current and 21st century war fighting needs. This means a defense maintenance workforce is needed in significant numbers to maintain these vehicles in top operating condition. And, that is just what the Work Ready Region intends to deliver to Fort Benning. Click here for more detail about the region's workforce.

Vision:

The Chattahoochee Valley region will be the key location for repairing and maintaining the U.S. Army's combat vehicles.

Differentiating the Chattahoochee Valley Region:

  • One BRAC recommendation relocates the U.S. Army Armor Center and School to Fort Benning, providing the region with unique opportunities to:
  • Establish the region as the key site for maintaining combat vehicles – activities that have no commercial equivalent
  • Develop specialized training programs needed to meet the needs of Fort Benning's BRAC requirements and beyond

Goals:

  • Create a combat automotive workforce development program that meets the training needs of both the Army's civil service and its supporting contractors at Fort Benning
  • Develop programs and processes to sustain Fort Benning's workforce development needs following BRAC
  • Develop effective and active combat automotive maintenance industry network.
  • Establish educational pathway (from high school to post-graduation education) for the array of combat automotive maintenance occupations
  • Meet or exceed Georgia Work Ready Certification targets
