The Heart of Georgia Advanced Manufacturing Work Ready Region has identified the jobs critical to the ongoing growth of the industry and is working to ensure its people have the right talent and skills to not only fill those jobs today, but also be ready to take on new challenges as the industry evolves.

Currently, the most critical jobs are: (Data from WRR Industry Network & C2ER)

First-line supervisors/managers of mechanics, installers and repairers

Supervise and coordinate the activities of mechanics, installers and repairers.

Laborers and freight, stock and materials movers (hand)

Manually move freight, stock or other materials or perform other unskilled general labor.

Machine feeders and offbearers

Feed materials into or remove materials from machines or equipment that is automatic or tended by other workers.

Machinists

Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify or repair mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures.

Multiple machine tool setters, operators and tenders - metal and plastic

Set up, operate or tend more than one type of cutting or forming machine, tool or robot.

Structural metal fabricators and fitters

Fabricate, lay out, position, align and fit parts of structural metal products.

Welders, cutters and welder fitters

Use hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations or seams of fabricated metal products.
