Chattahoochee Valley Energy

Energy Work Ready Region

Georgia's Work Ready Regions is an industry cluster strategy. Each region is an industry-led effort headed by an industry leader and guided by the regions existing industry network. The result is a linking of education, workforce development and training aligned to the needs of the regional sustainable architecture and construction industry. Its sustainable architecture and construction industry network is known as the Chattahoochee Valley-BRAC Energy Region.

The Chattahoochee Valley-BRAC Region, to date, includes Chattahoochee, Harris, Marion, Muscogee, Stewart, Talbot and Taylor Counties in Georgia, and Russell County in Alabama. Six counties in the region are currently working toward Certified Work Ready Community status.

The region is home to Fort Benning, a U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence, which provides the nation with the world’s best-trained infantry, armor and cavalry soldiers. This is an installation whose mission is expanding as an outcome of the Base Realignment Commission (BRAC). This expansion means growth and new, energy-efficient facilities. And all of this requires a workforce trained to build to energy efficient standards and environmental requirements. Click here for more detail about the region’s workforce.

Vision:

The CV-BRAC region will be the leading center in Georgia for training workers in the field of sustainable architecture and construction.

Differentiating the Chattahoochee Valley-BRAC Energy Region:

  • Fort Benning BRAC represents one of the largest and longest (in duration) infrastructure and housing development efforts ever undertaken in the U.S., offering significant opportunities to:
    • Create one of the nation's first regional efforts to help building contractors fully understand and apply sustainable construction methods and practices
    • Develop a skilled construction labor pool with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) training
    • Close the substantial workforce gap created by the substantial construction demands related to BRAC
    • Build a long-term niche (beyond BRAC) for the region with a workforce skilled in sustainable construction practices, techniques and technologies

Goals:

  • Provide a ready workforce to meet the needs in the sustainable architecture and industrial construction field during the BRAC process
  • Meet Fort Benning's workforce development needs following BRAC
  • Create an effective and active sustainable architecture and construction industry network
  • Establish educational pathway (from high school to post-graduation education) for the array of sustainable architecture and construction occupations
  • Create sustainable architecture and construction workforce development programs that represent national best practices for addressing military-related construction needs
  • Meet or exceed Georgia Work Ready Certification targets
