Supply Chain Management Crescent
Logistics Work Ready Region
Georgia's Work Ready Regions is an industry cluster strategy. Each region is an industry-led effort headed by an industry leader and guided by the regions existing industry network. The result is a linking of education, workforce development and training aligned to the needs of the regional logistics industry. Its logistics industry network is known as the Supply Chain Management Crescent Work Ready Region.
The Supply Chain Management Crescent Work Ready Region, to date, includes Barrow, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe and Walton Counties. All the counties in the region are currently working toward Certified Work Ready Community status.
Atlanta's global access, innovation and talent create an unparalleled logistics network for companies that demand efficient, predictable and consistent global supply chain operations to accelerate growth. Metro Atlanta has grown into a leading global logistics hub and center for supply chain management due to its strong cluster of corporate headquarters, vital Southeast geographic location, robust infrastructure of highway, rail, port and air resources, and concentration of supply chain technology and talent.
Metro Atlanta is the fifth-largest center for supply chain employment in the United States and the sixth-largest industrial market by square footage. The region is home to supply chain leaders like Manhattan Associates, UPS, Delta Air Lines, the Georgia Tech Supply Chain and Logistics Institute and the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens. The area's talent, experts and real world supply chain assets make it a leading center globally for the development of supply chain and logistics innovations.
The region is positioned well for future growth supporting logistics and supply chain infrastructure, with a special emphasis on integration with the life science industry. Current plans call for the development of a large multi-modal industrial park in Forest Park that will contain third-party logistics companies and an additional major rail yard connecting the Savannah ocean ports to Atlanta.
